Advocacy on policy issues is essential to AHCH’s work on behalf of people experiencing homelessness; not just in Albuquerque, but nationally too. AHCH advocates for solutions to the core issues that contribute to homelessness, including: living wages/entitlements, housing, and access to health care. An Advocacy Committee comprised of staff and board members (donors/volunteers) meets regularly to prioritize and plan AHCH’s advocacy activities. Activities include hosting tours of elected officials, reaching out to neighborhood associations, working on cross-agency task forces, speaking at City Council meetings, registering voters and participation in coalitions and professional organizations, lobbying at State Legislature and participation in special initiatives related to Advocacy.
